Special Needs Clinic
People of all
ages may have special conditions, which may limit one or more major life
activities. These conditions include stroke, spinal cord injury, mental
retardation, Down syndrome and genetic disorders. Such patients need
dental attention and treatment to at least the same standards as
non-handicapped patients and frequently have a greater predisposition to
dental disease. Unfortunately, for many years dental care has been
labeled as the greatest unmet health need of the handicapped world wide.
Here in the
Arab Dental Center a clinic for people with special needs has been
established to meet local community needs in this field. A portable
dental clinic is also available to treat handicapped patients who don’t
have access to the center. General anesthesia for uncooperative patients
may also be implemented in hospitals.
The center organizes visits to special needs institutes
for dental examination and treatment and to give lectures for caregivers
about dental care for the handicapped.
Arab Dental Center hopes that these services will meet
your satisfaction in order to extend bridges of cooperation to alleviate
the suffering of these patients.

Fillings
-
Amalgam fillings:
It contains both silver and mercury and some other materials, to make
what is known as “amalgam".
Amalgam has been in use as a filling since a long time. After
placement of an amalgam filling the tooth might remain sensitive to cold
and hot stimuli for some time. If the patient feels that the filling is
“high” he is advised to return to his dentist as soon as possible to
correct the situation.
-
Composite Fillings:
They are fillings usually used in the front teeth and sometimes in
the back teeth. These fillings have the same color of the teeth, they
are used for esthetic purposes. Fillings are either direct chair-side,
or indirect fillings called inlays or onlays which consist of ceramic
materials.
· Bleaching of teeth:-
To get a beautiful smile and white natural teeth, tooth pastes are
not enough for that. Teeth might be whitened in the clinic or at home
easily and smoothly. All colors and pigments in the teeth whether from
food, drinks, smoking, age, drugs misuse or fluoridation can be removed
easily and painlessly by using chemical means or by the laser. Make sure
to ask your dentist about it next time you visit the clinic.

The Endodontic Clinic
Thank you for your interest in the endodontic clinic at the Arab Dental
Center. We provide the highest standard of professional care in a
friendly and comfortable environment. We aim to make root canal therapy
an enjoying and unforgetter experience.
The root canal:
At the center of the tooth is the pulp; a collection of blood vessels
and nerves that helps in building the tooth. Infection of the pulp can
be due to decay (caries), trauma, cracks and some faulty dental
procedures.
Symptoms of pulpitis may include pain provoked or spontaneous, swelling
and change in tooth color.
Root canal therapy:
A thorough examination of the tooth that will include x-rays will be
done, and if the dentist reaches to the firm diagnosis that the tooth
needs root canal therapy, the procedure will be performed.
The dentist will gain access to the inflamed pulp tissue and remove it
and then the root canal will be cleaned and shaped and a filling will be
inserted in it. This treatment usually involves local anesthesia
administration and may be completed in one or more visits depending on
the pulp status.
The clinic is equipped with state of the art endodontic equipment to
provide the patient with a fast and painless treatment.
Recently we have introduced the use of the microscope to aid in the
treatment of difficult cases. It enhances visibility and illumination
which improves the quality of work offered to the patient.
We focus on the single visit treatment, when applicable; sparing the
patient the trouble of multiple visits to the clinic and speeding up his
overall treatment.
We hope that the information provided answers many of your questions. If
you have further enquires please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Laser
The
Arab dental center is distinguished by utilizing the most recent
world-wide appliances, to present the best in the service of teeth and
gingival treatment
Laser is one of the most distinctive appliances; since it has become
widely used in all fields of modern medicine and dentistry
Laser is used in the dental treatments especially in whiting teeth that
have unattractive colors or dark lines. Such treatment may be performed
within half an hour without any side effects
Moreover, laser could be used in elimination of dental caries
effectively without the need for using local anesthesia
Other uses of Laser includes scaling and polishing of teeth , treatment
of oral ulcers , removal of fibromas , removal of gingival hyper-
pigmentations (congenital pigmentations or due to smoking ) and is used
in periodontal surgeries and sterilization of infections or abscesses
Microscope
is one of the recently added devices used in the Arab dental center
which contributes in developing surgical procedures, implants and
endodontic treatment.

Maxillofacial surgery
What is Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery?
"Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is the specialty of dentistry which
includes the surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and
defects involving both the functional and esthetic aspects of the hard
and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region."
American Association of Oral
and Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a surgical specialty which involves
both dental and medical surgical treatments, it diagnoses and treats
diseases, deformities, injuries and cosmetic defects of the facial and
oral region. OMFS are considered the "orthopedic and plastic and
reconstructive surgeons of the Maxillofacial region" (the upper jaw,
cheek bones, the bones that support & surround the eyes, lower jaw,
chin, jaw joints, associated facial structures, and the intra-oral
structures including teeth and their supporting bone and gum tissues,
salivary glands, and lining tissues of the mouth.
Many of the procedures performed are in an office
ambulatory surgical setting. These procedures include the removal of
teeth, management of oral and facial pathology, laser surgery to manage
surgical aspects of dental implants, regeneration of deficient bone and
gum tissues around teeth and implants and cosmetic periodontal surgery
to enhance gum tissue contours and beautify a patient’s smile. They also
include minor cosmetic procedures such as chin and cheek-bone
enhancements, minor facial rejuvenation procedures including the use of
and laser technology to reduce facial wrinkles. Sedation and general
anesthesia can be used to manage discomfort and anxiety.
The remainder of oral and maxillofacial surgical
procedures are performed in the hospital. These procedures include
corrective jaw surgery to treat jaw growth problems which can affect
both the function and appearance of the oral and facial area,
temporomadibular joint (TMJ) surgery, treatment of complicated facial
injuries and fractures, reconstruction of jaw or facial regions
resulting from trauma or pathology, management of craniofacial and cleft
lip and palate deformities, and treatment of tumors of the jaw and
face.
Wisdom Teeth
Why Should I Remove My Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt within the mouth. When they
align properly, and gum tissue is healthy, wisdom teeth do not have to
be removed. Unfortunately, this does not generally happen. The
extraction of wisdom teeth is necessary when they are prevented from
properly erupting within the mouth. They may grow sideways, partially
emerge from the gum, and even remain trapped beneath the gum and bone.
Impacted teeth can take many positions in the bone as they attempt to
find a pathway that will allow them to erupt successfully.
These poorly positioned impacted teeth can cause many problems. When
they are partially erupted, the opening around the tooth allows bacteria
to grow and will eventually cause an infection. The result: swelling,
stiffness, pain and illness. The pressure from the erupting wisdom tooth
may move other teeth and disrupt the orthodontic or natural alignment of
teeth.
Surgical Risks
Done correctly the removal of impacted teeth is very safe. However.
Often there are some anatomical variations that may put some patients at
risk.
The upper teeth are often close to the sinus and may be displaced
into it or root tips may fall in it. Also, there is a risk for an
opening between the mouth and the sinus that may need to be closed
later.
The lower teeth are close to the nerves that give sensation to the
lip and tongue and may cause numbness of these areas.
Any extraction has the risk of damage to adjacent teeth, bleeding,
swelling, and infection.
Each patient is different and these risks will be specifically
discussed with you.
The Post-Operative Period
The removal of impacted wisdom teeth and the surgical removal of teeth
is quite different from the extraction of erupted teeth. The following
conditions may occur, all of which are considered normal:
- The surgical site may hurt for a few days
- The surgical area will swell.
- Swelling peaks on the 2nd or 3rd post -operative day
- Trismus (stiffness) of the muscles may cause difficulty in
opening your mouth for a period of days.
- You may have a slight earache.
- A sore throat may develop.
- Your other teeth may ache temporarily. This is referred pain and
is a temporary condition.
- If the corners of the mouth are stretched out they may dry and
crack. Your lips should be kept moist with cream or ointment.
- There will be a space where the tooth was removed. After 24
hours this area should be rinsed following meals with warm salt
water until it is healed. This cavity will gradually fill in with
new tissue over the next few months
- There may be a slight elevation of temperature for 24 to 48
hours. If temperature continues, notify us.
- It is not unusual to develop bruising in the area of an
extraction.
Please take all prescriptions as directed and take pain medications
if you are experiencing pain. Pain medications can cause side effects
and nausea and should not be taken if there is no pain.
Women please note: Some antibiotics may interfere with the effectiveness
of your birth control pills. Please check with your pharmacist.
Care of Mouth After Oral Surgery
- Do not rinse or spit for 24 hours after surgery.
- Keep fingers and tongue away from socket or surgical area.
- Use ice packs on surgical area (side of face) for first 48
hours, apply ice 20 minutes on - 10 minutes off. Bags of frozen peas
work well.
- For mild discomfort take Tylenol or Ibuprofen every three to
four hours.
- For severe pain use the prescription given to you.
- Drink plenty of fluids. (Do not use a straw)
- If the muscles of the jaw become stiff, chewing gum at intervals
will help relax the muscles. The use of warm, moist heat to the
outside of your face beginning on the third day will further help
with relaxation of the muscles.
- After the first post-operative day, use a warm salt-water rinse
following meals for the first week to flush out particles of food
and debris which may lodge in the surgical area. (1/2 teaspoon of
salt in a glass of warm water. Mouthwash can be added for better
taste.)
- Diet may consist of soft foods which can be easily chewed and
swallowed. No seeds, nuts, rice, popcorn, etc.
- A certain amount of bleeding is to be expected following
surgery. Bleeding is controlled by applying pressure to the surgical
area using small rolled gauze for 90 minutes. After that time remove
the gauze and then you may eat or drink. If bleeding persists, a
moist tea bag should be placed in the area of bleeding and bite
firmly for one hour straight. This will aid in clotting blood.
Repeat if necessary. If bleeding still persists call our office.
- We suggest that you do not smoke for at least 5 days after
surgery. Nicotine may break down the blood clot and cause a
"Dry-Socket".
- Numbness of lip/tongue may be experienced for a variable period
of time.
- Feel free to contact us if any doubt arises as to your progress
and recovery.
Post-Op Instructions
What you should do following oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures
A certain amount of bleeding, pain, and swelling is normal. Reduce your
activity as much as possible for several hours. Avoid eating, drinking,
and unnecessary talking. These activities may hinder proper healing in
the first few hours.
Do not be alarmed if your vision is blurred for a time following
anesthesia or if a "black and blue" bruise should appear at the site of
an injection. The arm also may be "black and blue", swollen and tender
to touch due to the IV.
Follow the simple instructions below to minimize complications and help
ensure prompt recovery.
To control bleeding
Immediately following procedure. . .keep a steady pressure over the
surgical site. Pressure helps reduce bleeding and permits formation of a
clot. Gently remove the compress after one hour. If bleeding persists,
place another compress and again keep steady pressure on the area for
one hour.
After 24 hours... some oozing of blood may persist. After bleeding has
stopped, cautiously resume oral hygiene.
The Nature of Maxillofacial Trauma
Bone Injuries of the Maxillofacial Region
Fractures of the bones of the face are treated in a manner similar to
the fractures in other parts of the body. The specific form of treatment
is determined by various factors, which include the location of the
fracture, the severity of the fracture, and the age and general health
of the patient. When an arm or a leg is fractured, a "cast" is often
applied to stabilize the bone and allow for proper healing. Since a cast
cannot be placed on the face, other means have been developed to
stabilize facial fractures.
One of these options involves wiring the jaws together for certain
fractures of the upper and/or lower jaw. However, certain other types of
fractures of the jaw are best treated and stabilized by the surgical
placement of small "plates and screws" at the involved site. This
technique of treatment can often allow for healing and obviates the
necessity of having the jaws wired together. This technique is called
"rigid fixation" of a fracture. The relatively recent development and
use of "rigid fixation" has profoundly improved the recovery period for
many patients by allowing them to return to normal function more
quickly.
The treatment of facial fractures should be accomplished in a thorough
and predictable manner. Importantly, the patient's facial appearance
should be minimally affected. An attempt at accessing the facial bones
through the fewest incisions necessary is always made. At the same time,
the incisions that become necessary are designed to be small and,
whenever possible, are placed so that the resultant scar is "hidden".
Orthognathic Surgery
Orthognathic surgery is needed when jaws don't meet
correctly and/or teeth don't seem to fit with jaws. Teeth are
straightened with orthodontics, and corrective jaw surgery repositions
misaligned jaws. This not only improves facial appearance, but also
ensures that teeth meet correctly and function properly.
Who Needs Orthognathic Surgery?
People who can benefit from orthognathic surgery include those with an
improper bite or jaws that are positioned incorrectly. Jaw growth is a
gradual process and, in some instances, the upper and lower jaws may
grow at different rates. The result can be a host of problems that can
affect chewing function, speech, long-term oral health, and appearance.
Injury to the jaw and birth defects can also affect jaw alignment. While
orthodontics alone can correct bite problems if only the teeth are
involved, orthognathic surgery may be required if the jaws also need
repositioning.
Before any treatment begins, a consultation will be held to perform a
complete examination with x-rays. During the pre-treatment consultation
process, feel free to ask any questions that you have regarding your
treatment. When you are fully informed about the aspects of your care,
you and your dental team will make the decision to proceed with
treatment together.
TMJ Disorders
TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders are a family of problems
related to your complex jaw joint. If you have had symptoms like pain or
a "clicking" sound, you'll be glad to know that these problems are more
easily diagnosed and treated than they were in the past. Since some
types of TMJ problems can lead to more serious conditions, early
detection and treatment are important.
Do You Have a TMJ Disorder?
- Are you aware of grinding or clenching your teeth?
- Do you wake up with sore, stiff muscles around your jaws?
- Do you have frequent headaches or neck aches?
- Does the pain get worse when you clench your teeth?
- Does stress make your clenching and pain worse?
- Does your jaw click, pop, grate, catch, or lock when you open
your mouth?
- Is it difficult or painful to open your mouth, eat or yawn?
- Have you ever injured your neck, head or jaws?
- Have you had problems (such as arthritis) with other joints?
- Do you have teeth that no longer touch when you bite?
- Do your teeth meet differently from time to time?
- Is it hard to use your front teeth to bite or tear food?
The more times you answered "yes," the more likely it is that you
have a TMJ disorder. Understanding TMJ disorders will also help you
understand how they're treated.
Chin Enhancement (Genioplasty)
Genioplasty
We perform genioplasty in order to reshape the chin and jowl area.
Appearance can be improved for those people who are dissatisfied with
the shape and size of their jaw. Genioplasty is a surgical procedure in
which the projection or the length of the chin is changed.
Method Of Surgery
Surgery is usually performed under IV Sedation or general anesthesia.
The surgery is done through the mouth to avoid any noticeable scars. The
procedure can sometimes be done by placing a prosthetic implant. In more
advanced cases, Drs., can completely reposition your chin bone in the
best possible place, based on the preoperative examination and workup.
This is a more technically demanding procedure but often leaves the
patient with a more natural appearance (as opposed to the look of the
"done" chin) and avoids the need for prosthetic implants. It is not
unusual to combine genioplasty with rhinoplasty or orthognathic surgery
to improve the profile.
Post-Operative Information
The recovery takes one to two weeks. Most people resume their normal
activities within a week. Following surgery, a special bandage is
sometimes applied to the chin area to aid with a speedy recovery.
Pain is minimal and is controlled with medications. Bruising occurs
around the chin, but begins to fade within a few days. Discoloration
usually disappears in two weeks.
Cheek Enhancement (Malar Augmentation)
Malar Augmentation
We perform malar augmentation in order to reshape the cheek area.
Appearance can be improved for those people who are dissatisfied with
the shape and size of their midface. Malar augmentation can give added
height or fullness to the cheeks. Strong cheekbones provide a healthy
and young look.
Before Surgery
A medical history along with a careful examination is conducted in order
to evaluate your general health. We will discuss with you the way your
cheeks can look in relation to your other facial features.
Method Of Surgery
Surgery is usually performed under IV Sedation or general anesthesia.
The surgery is done through the mouth to avoid any noticeable scars. As
a maxillofacial surgeon can reshape your cheekbones by a number of
methods. Prosthetic implants are commonly used, but in select cases, it
may be best to reposition the whole midface or just the cheekbones. It
is not unusual to combine malar augmentation with rhinoplasty or
orthognathic surgery to improve the overall facial appearance.
Post-Operative Information
The recovery takes one to two weeks. Most people resume their normal
activities within a week. Pain is minimal and is controlled with
medications. Bruising occurs around the eyes, but begins to fade within
a few days. Discoloration usually disappears in two weeks.
Rhinoplasty
WE performs Rhinoplasty in order to reshape the nose. Appearance can be
improved for those people who are dissatisfied with the shape and size
of their nose. Nasal reconstruction was one of the first cosmetic
procedures ever developed and is among those most frequently performed
today. Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure in which deformities of the
nose are corrected by removing, rearranging or reshaping bone or
cartilage.
Method Of Surgery
Surgery is usually performed under IV Sedation, which is both extremely
comfortable and results in less swelling and bruising than general
anesthesia. In most cases involving a reduction in shape or size of the
nose, angle or removal of a hump, the skin of the nose is separated from
the underlying skeleton of bone and cartilage. The bone and cartilage
are then reshaped and the skin re-draped over the surface. Patients who
have a deviated septum may benefit by correction of this problem. The
incisions are placed inside the nose, unless the surgeon uses an open
approach, in which case the incisions are made across the columella (the
tissue between the nostrils). In cases where the nostrils flare, the
surgeon may make an incision at the junction between the nose and the
skin of the upper lip to narrow the flared appearance. It is not unusual
to combine rhinoplasty with chin augmentation to improve the profile.
Post-Operative Information
The recovery takes one to two weeks. Most people resume their normal
activities within a week or two. Following surgery, a lightweight splint
is applied to maintain the new shape of the nose. The splint is removed
within a week. Nasal splints may be inserted at the time of surgery to
protect the septum. These are removed within a week. There is always
some stuffiness of the nose, especially when work has been done on the
nasal septum.
Pain is minimal and is controlled with medications. Bruising occurs
around the eyes, but begins to fade within a few days. Discoloration
usually disappears in two weeks.
FACE LIFTING
Many factors cause the skin to wrinkle and sag -
exposure to the sun, genetics as well as the natural aging process.
Children and young adults have smooth, round faces due to fatty tissue
that is evenly distributed throughout the contours of the face. As you
age, the skin sags and fits more loosely. These folds become prominent,
especially around the chin, the jaw line and along the neck.
We perform rhytidectomies, or facelifts, to enhance your appearance and
correct these conditions. A facelift involves tightening of the facial
and neck muscles as well as the removal of any excess skin. The
procedure is often performed in conjunction with additional cosmetic
surgeries such as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), forehead lift, chin
augmentation, liposuction and/or rhinoplasty (nasal surgery). These
procedures can be performed any time after signs of aging appear in
order to attain a more youthful appearance.
Before Surgery
We will evaluate your medical history in order to determine your overall
health. Then we will discuss with you how your face can look and what
you can expect from surgery. Our objective is to create a natural
appearance that is pleasing to you. Photographs and computer imaging are
performed to determine the amount of improvement after surgery.
We will provide you with preoperative instructions that may include the
elimination of specific drugs containing aspirin several weeks before
surgery to minimize excess bleeding. Antibiotics may also be prescribed
to prevent infection. You may be instructed to shampoo your hair the
night before surgery. A small amount of hair may be shaved around your
ears and temples.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
As one of the most exciting and innovative
scientific achievements of the decade, Laser technology is being
utilized throughout the health care community. Our Drs. uses one of the
newest lasers, the ultrapulse carbon dioxide laser, to treat sun-damaged
skin, facial wrinkles and scars in a procedure called laser skin
resurfacing.
What is a laser?
The word "laser" is an acronym, which stands for Light Amplification by
the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A surgical laser, such as the CO2
laser, is a beam of light capable of removing unwanted tissue, such as
scarred, lined, wrinkled, and otherwise imperfect skin. The laser
vaporizes skin cells by emitting bursts of radiation that are absorbed
by water in these cells. Laser light penetrates to a very precise,
controlled depth, making the procedure safe and predictable, while
reducing the risk of scarring or pigmentation problems. Laser skin
resurfacing is bloodless, and is performed right here in our office,
under light sedation. As a result of this treatment, you are left with
more natural looking skin.
What areas can be treated through laser resurfacing?
The laser is used to reduce tiny wrinkles, acne scars and other minor
skin imperfections, especially around the mouth and eyes. It can improve
sun-damaged and acne scarred skin, problems that often cause concern to
both men and women.
Benefits of Treatment
Laser resurfacing can be used as an alternative to chemical peel and
dermabrasion. The benefits of using this technique are that there is
less pain and a faster recovery time. In most cases, it is also less
costly.
Before Surgery
Prior to surgery, Drs and you will discuss the goals for facial
improvement. After determining the most appropriate procedure to use, we
will fully describe the procedure, what results to expect and the costs.
The skin is usually pretreated prior to surgery to improve the healing
time.
The Procedure
A local anesthetic is given to ensure that you are comfortable
throughout the procedure. The area is cleansed and draped. Drs. Holmes,
Sclar, and Matouk direct the laser beam toward your skin imperfections.
The laser quickly and accurately vaporizes the outermost layers of skin
just four or five cells in thickness.
What can be expected?
In most cases, only one treatment is needed. The initial redness fades
in a few weeks to a light pink, which can be camouflaged with cosmetics.
The discoloration usually disappears in one or three months. The goal of
laser resurfacing is to enhance facial appearance. Expectations by the
patient must be realistic, and results should be anticipated as
improvements rather than total corrections. Results of the surgery
depend on many factors such as the size, shape and location of the
imperfection and the patient's heredity, age and general skin
condition.
Endoscopic Brow Lifts
we perform Brow and Forehead Lifts to raise
eyebrows and reduce ridges and furrows on the forehead, thus creating a
smoother, more youthful appearance. This procedure can be performed in
conjunction with other surgeries.
An incision is generally made across the top of the head from the front
of one ear to the front of the other ear. The forehead and brows are
elevated and excess skin is removed. The flap is then sutured. Newer
techniques now allow us to perform Forehead Lifting through small
incisions in the scalp by using an Endoscope and specialized
instruments. This accelerates the healing process.
Post-Operative Information
Antibiotics may be prescribed for several days following surgery.
Sutures are generally removed within one week. Swelling and some
bruising may occur, they should subside within a few weeks. Our doctors
will prescribe ice compresses and eye exercises to reduce swelling and
regain mobility. Women will be allowed to use eye cosmetics up to two
weeks after surgery. You can proceed with your normal daily activities
within 1-2 weeks. A final evaluation may occur within several months
from the initial surgical procedure.
Reconstructive Oral and Craniofacial Surgery
ADC. have specialized in the reconstruction of major defects. These
problems may be due to tumors and cancer surgery. They may also be due
to congenital disorders such as cleft lip and palate as well as other
craniofacial syndromes. Occasionally, major defects may result from
trauma and require secondary reconstruction also.
The reconstruction of oral and facial defects involves complex surgery
that often requires multi-staged procedures. Procedures may include soft
and hard tissue grafting, complex flaps and corrective osteotomies. Also
both oral and facial implants may be required.
These surgeries are performed in the out-office surgical suite under I.V.
sedation or general anesthesia. After discharge, bed rest and limited
physical activity is recommended for a variable period of time.

Orthodontics
Orthodontic Treatment
Orthodontic treatment deals with cases of
dental irregularities as well as with facial bone growth disturbances.
Problems of such nature can adversely affect the beauty and appearance
of the person in a way that causes a psychological problem, which could
also lead to some behavioral and social reactions, and all of that may
be reflected on the quality of life.
Orthodontic problems are not confined only
to the appearance, but they also do affect the health of gums, teeth,
and occlusion as well as speech and phonetics.
Dental irregularities may arise from both
hereditary and acquired factors. Hereditary factors are inherited
through genes that can for example affect the size of the teeth or the
size of the jaw. Whereas acquired factors could be as a result of an
early removal of a milk tooth that leads to an early loss of the space
for the permanent successor.
Facial bone growth problems are mostly
congenitally determined, but they could sometimes arise from acquired
factors like trauma subjected to the face in the growth stage.
Problems arising from both dental and bony
origins can be effectively treated at the Orthodontic clinic in the ARAB
DENTAL CENTER.
Dental orthodontic problems are mostly
preferred to be treated at ages when all milk teeth are replaced by
their successors (11-13 years of age in most cases). Bone growth
problems must be treated during the facial growth period (not more than
9 years of age) by the use of FUNCTIONAL APPLIANCES.
Some of the orthodontic problems can arise
as a result of bad habits such as thumb sucking or tongue thrusting
between the front teeth. In such cases, preventive orthodontic
appliances are designed to help the child quitting the habit.
When the orthodontic problem is well
established our orthodontist at the center will deal with it by using
the appropriate FIXED OR REMOVABLE appliance. Many alternative appliance
designs are available at the ARAB DENTAL CENTER ranging from the
conventional ones through the esthetic and the invisible ones.
Orthodontic treatment is time consuming in
nature, and every case differs widely from other cases regarding the
procedures which will be reflected on treatment period.
Almost all orthodontic
treated cases will need a certain period of retention to keep the
corrected teeth in their places until the surrounding bone is
strengthened and able to prevent them from relapse.
Some orthodontic
problems, especially those originated from bone growth disturbances, are
beyond the treatment ability of the conventional orthodontic appliances.
In such cases our orthodontist will cooperate with the MAXILLOFACIAL
SURGERY DEPARTMENT at the center, and they will work as one team to put
teeth, bones, and occlusion in the right way.

In addition,
our pedodontist is highly-trained in the management of the anxious child
patient through modern behavioral techniques. The extremely anxious
child can also be managed using oral sedative, nitrousoxide (laughing
gas) or dental treatment under general anesthesia.
Our center is
open 24 hours/day, and thus we are equipped to handle pediatric
emergencies at any time of the day, whether it is a toothache or a child
falling down and breaking a tooth, we are always ready.
Sealants: -
The pits and
fissures are the main sites of caries activity in the child and
adolescent, that’s why it should be sealed.
A sealant is
a white material that, when applied to the chewing surface of a tooth,
bonds into the grooves of the tooth to act as a barrier, protecting the
enamel from plaque and acids. It is applied to the back teeth (premolars
and molars) where decay occurs most often. Sealant could be applied for
both primary and permanent teeth, from ages 3 and above.
Does the
process Hurt?
Sealants are
easily and painlessly applied. It only takes a few minutes to seal each
tooth. As long as the sealant remains intact, the sealed tooth surface
will be protected from decay. Sealants hold up well under the force of
normal chewing and usually last several years. During your regular
dental visits, your dentist will check the condition of the sealants and
reapply them if necessary.
Topical
fluoride application:-
Fluoride
decreases caries rate by decreasing acid production in plaque and by
increasing remineralization of tooth surface.
The number of
topical fluoride applications per year depends on caries risk of a
particular child, but a minimum of two applications is considered
optimum in most cases
Space
maintainer: -
An appliance
